Nature-based solutions (NbS) can reduce flood risks while improving water quality, soil health, and biodiversity. A study of two UK projects—Littlestock Brook and LANDWISE—highlighted their effectiveness. At Littlestock Brook, NbS reduced storm discharge peaks by up to 55% while maintaining storage capacity. The LANDWISE project showed that organic matter and innovative farming practices, such as controlled traffic and minimal tillage, enhanced soil structure and porosity, boosting natural flood management potential.
