Abstract

Salt marshes and tidal flats are crucial for biodiversity and coastal protection but have suffered significant loss, impacting species like migratory water birds. In response, Wetlands International and Cambridge University’s Conservation Evidence Group have developed the Guidelines for the Restoration, Creation, and Management of Salt Marshes and Tidal Flats. This resource provides evidence-based best practices for restoring these ecosystems, supporting global efforts in biodiversity conservation, climate mitigation, and coastal protection.
