The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in collaboration with the United Nations  International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR),  hosted a workshop for participants from sub-Saharan  Africa, on 20-21 November, in Port Louis, Mauritius. Release of the Cancun Declaration at the CoP 13 Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)
The Cancun Declaration was adopted by the 13th Conference of the Parties of the CBD, which met in Cancun, Mexico from 4-17 December. The declaration makes specific reference to the importance of ecosystems for the prevention of natural risks including desertification and for maintaining food security. Scientific corner 
Encouraging a transdisciplinary approach for effective climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction
In this article, the authors argue in favour of a transdisciplinary approach to climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction. They recommend the integration of disciplines, approaches, and knowledge systems, which result in greater, more sustainable impacts in confronting multi-dimensional challenges.

Green jobs for sustainable development
The International Training Centre located in Turin, Italy, in collaboration with the ILO Green Jobs Programme, are pleased to announce their distance training course on “Green jobs for sustainable development: Concepts and practice.” The course takes place from 13 March to 26 May 2017 and will be available in both English and Spanish.  IUCN present natural solutions in Guatemala
Between 05-07 October, Guatemala hosted the 2nd National Congress on Climate Change, drawing more than 700 representatives from  government and non-government sectors. IUCN presented on “Communities with natural intelligence: The approach of ecosystem-based adaptation.” The presentation  addressed the role of ecosystems as natural solutions to climate change and risks affecting communities.Click here for more.
