In the lead up to the UNFCCC COP23, a new campaign by the UN Convention to Combat Desertification is seeking signatures to support the uptake of sustainable land management practices to address climate change. The campaign calls upon everyone to come together and take responsibility for how we manage our land. See the campaign and sign up here.

New book - Listening to our Land: Stories of Resilience
A new book, Listening to our Land: Stories of Resilience, has been launched by the United Nations Development Programme, Global Environment Facility, Government of Namibia and the Secretariat for the UN Convention to Combat Desertification. It contains eight stories that demonstrate how sustainable land management is improving living conditions of communities and strengthening environmental resilience in countries as varied as Namibia, Cuba, Mongolia and Kazakhstan. UNISDR releases new guidelines on national disaster risk assessments
The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) has released guidelines to encourage more countries to undertake national disaster risk assessments. It includes guidelines to assess environmental impacts, and notes that investing in resilience-building activities such as ecosystem-based DRR can yield significant economic, social and environmental co-benefits. Training Opportunities
New course on integrating disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation
The Institute for Development Studies will be hosting a week-long course in the UK in January 2018 on Integrating Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation. The course aims to equip policymakers and practitioners with the knowledge and skills to more effectively integrate disaster risk reduction with adaptation to climate change, in the context of development and poverty reduction.
