   PEDRR Shoutout : World Wetlands Day Roundtable Discussion in Geneva

On 2nd February, a Roundtable Discussion on “Healthy Wetlands, Resilient Communities” for the Geneva community took place. More than 40 representatives from Permanent Missions in Geneva and approximately 150 people attended the event. The discussions described practical examples as well as challenges of promoting wetlands for disaster risk reduction. Online Training
MOOC Course on Ecosystem Services
Available on the Coursera platform and produced by the University of Geneva and partners, this course will cover the technical, economic, and socio-political dimensions of using ecosystem services for sustainable development. IUCN launches wetlands for resilience project in Lower Mekong countries
On the occasion of World Wetlands Day 2017, the International Union for Conservation of Nature launched a project that builds climate resilience by harnessing the benefits of wetlands in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, to be implemented until 2020. Continue reading.

The 9th World Conference of the Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) will be held in Shenzhen, China on 11-15 December 2017. The overarching theme this year will focus on the role of ecosystem services in ecosystem restoration and nature-based solutions. This IUCN report discusses ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction (Eco-DRR) in seven countries, considered most vulnerable to hazards: Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Samoa and Republic of Marshall Islands.
