Cape Town’s Water Crisis Mitigated with Natural Infrastructure
The complex water issues that Cape Town in South Africa is experiencing have resulted in water shortages and left the city vulnerable to droughts. Natural infrastructure such as swamps or shallow ponds can help provide clean water for domestic and agriculture use. US Airport Expansion Decreases Resilience
The Environmental Protection Agency of the United States maintains that the Teterboro Airport’s expansion project in the state of New Jersey could be detrimental to the environment, leaving the surrounding areas susceptible to severe flooding. Residents and environmentalists claim that this project would eliminate wetlands which act as a natural sponge for rainwater. The Army Corps of Engineers will determine whether or not this project will be approved. Read more the full article here.
  
Fiji’s New DRR Policy
Fiji is adopting a new policy which focuses on an integrated and inclusive approach to disaster risk reduction. It calls for greater investment in measures for environmental resilience, social improvement, economic growth, and sustainable development across development plans and practice. Ibadan, Nigeria, is implementing a new initiative that utilizes traditional flood-response methods.
