End of Year Eco-DRR Message from PEDRR

On behalf of all PEDRR partners, we wish you a peaceful and joyful Holiday Season!

The PEDRR Secretariat will be closed from 22 December 2017 to the 8 January 2018. We take this opportunity to thank you for engaging with us this year and for helping to spread Eco-DRR practice.

We wish you a safe and relaxing end of the year and look forward to connecting with you again in 2018, a year which marks the 10th anniversary of the PEDRR Network!

Greening the grey – Why Scotland needs green infrastructure

A recent article by Holyrood looks at the benefits of improving green infrastructure investment in Scotland. It argues that while over 80% of Scots live in towns and cities, there are still many places in Scotland, often associated with less affluent areas, where there is potential for urban green spaces which provide multiple benefits, including flood management and healthier living. Resource guide for planning, designing and implementing green infrastructure in parks

A new green infrastructure guide draws on lessons learned through pilot projects and provides basic principles, inspiration and ideas to help planners, designers and decision makers to integrate green stormwater infrastructure into parks and park systems across the US. Access the resource here.

Russia has increased forest regeneration by 50%

Over the past two years, the annual area of forest re-planted in Russia has increased by 50% to 41,000 hectares.There are now plans to double the total overall volume of replanted forest in the country to 800,000 hectares. This area will include the Baikal natural territory, which was previously heavily damaged by wildfire. Read the discussion here.

The Wessex Institute are holding the 11th International Conference on Risk Analysis and Hazard Mitigation from 6-8 June 2018 in Seville, Spain. The conference covers current research and many practical applications, including in the areas of disaster mitigation and vulnerability assessments. Interdisciplinary Conference on Geoinformation and Sustainable Development 2018

The 24th InterCarto-InterGIS Conference will be held from 24-28 July 2018 in Bonn, Germany. Key themes for the conference include nature conservation, spatial ecology, landscape protection, environmental risks, resilience, climate change and the sustainable development goals.
