International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and The Nature Conservancy team-up to protect world’s most vulnerable coastal communities
                                
                                         

IFRC released a new report citing increasing exposure to sea level rise and hurricanes in coastal areas and the positive impacts of nature-based risk reduction measures. In 2017 The Nature Conservancy and IFRC launched the project “Resilient Island” which advocates the use of coastal habitats to reduce risk. Read the full report here.

Nature can help us deal with water disasters
The increasing frequency of droughts and extreme floods have severe impacts on development, resulting in displacement, economic loss and infrastructure damages. This year`s UN World Water Development Report puts a spotlight on the role of “green infrastructure” and the advantages of combining “grey” and “green” infrastructure for disaster risk reduction. Kerala floods: From the eyes of wetlands
Devastating floods in August caused high economic losses and affected many people in the state of Kerala, India. Wetlands International has released an article on how wetlands can moderate water flows and how reduction of wetlands has increased disaster risks. Read the whole article here

Ecosystem-based water security and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
            

Published in the scientific journal Ecohydrology and Hydrobiology, this new paper features the greatest threats of water security and explains how ecosystem-based solutions can help manage sustainable water supply. A comparative analysis with technical measures discusses the costs of installation and maintenance and their impact on the environment. Read the full paper here

The 10 years’ anniversary of ICLEI Resilient Cities plans a special edition with a 360-degree view on urban resilience. The theme “innovation for resilience” will encompass the topic of resilient and adaptive infrastructure, including nature-based solutions and eco-mobility.
