MOOC on A Resilient Future: Science and Technology for Disaster Risk Reduction

|
The second edition of this MOOC has been launched in a self-paced format. It introduces participants to existing and emerging technologies suitable for disaster risk reduction, while promoting the overall aim of sustainable development. |
This MOOC brings you closer to the nexus of climate change adaptation, agriculture and sustainable development. New E-Learning Course on DRR and CCA
|
|
|
The Swiss NGO DRR Platform has released an “E-Learning Course on disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation”. It is a self-paced online course consisting of four modules in the form of power point presentations ready for download. The course is open to everybody, particularly those who are new to the fields of DRR and CCA. The course can be accessed online here.

New resilience park opens in New Jersey
|
|
A model for green and resilient infrastructure parks in New Jersey, United States, has opened to the public. The one-acre park is designed to hold 200,000 gallons of storm water runoff. It incorporates rain gardens, shade tree pits, porous pavers and a cistern for rainwater harvesting and reuse, as well as an underground detention system to reduce storm water runoff and flooding. New Haven recognised by FEMA for green infrastructure investments
|
|
The United States Federal Emergency Management Agency has recognised New Haven, Connecticut, for the voluntary steps it has taken to prepare long term for sea rise, surges, flooding, and erosion. Some of the steps taken have included green infrastructure projects, including “bioswales”. Local residents have received a 15% reduction in their flood insurance as a result of the resilience investments. Read the article here.

BiodivERsA and EKLIPSE are hosting a webinar titled “Nature-based Solutions (NBS): Pandora box or reconciling concept?” on 4 October 2017, 13:00 CET. The webinar will stimulate exchange on NBS and raise awareness on NBS typology, benefits and limitations.
