A guide to INDCS
This publication, written by the Climate & Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) and Ricardo-AEA, is a tool for Least Developed Countries (LDC) to support their Intended National Determined Contributions (INDC), which are actions that countries are willing to undertake to stabilise their level of greehouse gas emissions, as committed under the United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change. The publication highlights the multiple benefits of ecosystems-based adaptation, such as afforestation activities that are not only helpful in reducing greehouse gas emissions, but also protect water resources and therefore contribute to adaptation. "Samurai protects his people....from floods"
The Sabo dam in Japan is seen as a symbol of the best of old and new worlds in their approach to prevent floods, combining modern engineering and traditional Japanese knowledge of the Samurais. The dam is constructed using both grey (concrete structures) and green engineering approaches. This structural design based on old and new knowledge has proved effective against flooding, conserved trees as well as contributed to groundwater recharge. Read full article.

MOOC
Disasters and Ecosystems:
Resilience in a Changing Climate
Our Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is finishing this week, but registrations are still open until May 31st 2015. We have more than 12,000 people currently enrolled, and 2,670 members in the MOOC Facebook group created by MOOC students. Participants have even created another Facebook group on Africa (open to anyone). The next run of the course will be offered in the Fall 2015.

2nd National Adaptation Forum (USA)
This year's National Adaptation Forum is the second gathering established by a group of professionals from the private and public sectors concerned about the need to respond to and prepare for the effects of climate change. On 13 May, a specific session on Ecosystem-based Adaptation will be featured, with a focus on natural infrastructures as solutions for climate change adaptation. More information.
