   PEDRR celebrates World Wetlands Day 2017 in Geneva - High-level Roundtable Discussion on “Healthy Wetlands, Resilient Communities”

This year World Wetlands Day 2017 will focus on Wetlands and Disaster Risk Reduction. To celebrate this important global event on 02 February, PEDRR and the Geneva Environment Network have organized a Roundtable Discussion on the role of wetlands in protecting people and enhancing their resilience to disasters. The event will include leaders from the Permanent Mission of the Philippines to the UN in Geneva, Government of Japan, International Federation of the Red Cross, UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, Wetlands International, IUCN and the Ramsar Convention. The Contribution of Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture to Resilience  - The Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (CGRFA) Special Event
Approximately 120 participants from Governments, farmers, private sector and civil society attended a special event on 28 January 2017, in Rome, Italy. Discussions focused on how biodiversity and ecosystem services help protect food security against the impact of long-term environmental changes and natural and human-made disasters. PEDRR partner Karen Sudmeier participated as a session speaker. For more information access the FAO website and the web coverage.

Regional assessment on Eco- DRR and Biodiversity in South America

The IUCN Regional Assessment for South America provides an analysis of natural hazards and their socio-economic impacts in the region. A number of case studies on Eco-DRR are presented from six countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.
The Big Flood: Will It Happen Again? Perspectives from Australia
