PEDRR Shoutout: Afghanistan Resilience Consortium promotes Eco-DRR/ CCA in 2016 Brussels Conference  
 
The Afghanistan Resilience Consortium (ARC) has published a position paper for 2016 Brussels Conference on Afghanistan, co-hosted by the European Union and the Government of Afghanistan. The position paper provides recommendations to the Government of Afghanistan, on how to implement integrated strategies for sustainable ecosystem management, to enhancing disaster and climate resilience at all levels of national planning. October 13th is International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction
In celebration of International Day for Disaster Reduction, the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh, the Permanent Mission of Switzerland, UNDP and the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, are organizing a panel discussion at the UN Headquarters in New York. The Panel will discuss the role of DRR efforts in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, with a special focus on successful country examples.

Ethiopia's restored drylands offer new hope
Ethiopia is, historically, extremely vulnerable to floods, which cause mass displacement throughout the country. This article reviews how land restoration led by the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF)  is reducing the effects of droughts, while simultaneously providing economic benefits to the communities most at risk. The positive outcomes of land restoration include higher crop yields, improved groundwater functioning, and flood prevention.Click here.
