Shout Out: PEDRR at the Integrated Disaster Risk Management Conference

Organized by IDRiM on 01-03 October 2016, the 7th International Conference on Integrated Disaster Risk Management will take place in Isfahan, Iran. UNEP together with PEDRR partners, UNDP and Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, are delivering two sessions on Eco-DRR in the context of accelerating implementation of the Sendai Framework. The first session focuses on Integrating DRR into Environmental Impact Assessments and Strategic Environmental Assessments, with the Deputy Vice-President of the Department of the Environment of Iran as a keynote speaker. Climate change adaptation project launched in Laos to sustain wetlands

In partnership with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Government of Laos is implementing an ecosystem-based adaptation project in two important wetlands, the Xe Champhone and Beung Khait. The project will take place between 2016-2020 and aim to ecologically develop over 14,000 hectares of wetlands as a buffer against climate extreme events; these wetlands also directly support over 50,000 inhabitants. Focusing on projects funded by The Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) in the UK, Rewilding Britain describes how upland flood storage areas, the re-vegetation of bare peat on moors and the creation of wooded dams along main channels can help to reduce flood hazards.
