The World Bank publishes guide on nature-based solutions for DRR

             

The World Bank Group recently published a booklet on nature-based solutions for disaster risk management.  A wide array of initiatives are presented, from managing wetlands for flood reduction to debt restructuring for protected marine areas. The guide also assesses the importance of NbS in disaster risk management and gives recommendations for financing such approaches. Read the full publication here.
Territorial potentials for Green infrastructure

                               

The European Territorial Observatory Network (ESPON) published a working paper which examines potential positive and negative effects of green infrastructure on European territorial development. It also looks at the geographical distribution of green infrastructure and ecosystem services in Europe and provides guidance for cities, regional and national governments to develop green infrastructure. Young Champion of the Earth 2019 - Submit your innovative Eco-DRR solutions
 
UN Environment and Covestro are calling on 18-30-year-old innovators to submit their creative solutions to the world's most pressing environmental challenges. Representing every global region, seven applicants with the most promising solutions will be recognized as Young Champions of the Earth. Each winner will receive US 15,000 in seed funding, 9,000 USD in communication funding, customized training, participation in a high-level UN meeting and global publicity. Apply by 30 March. How peat mosses respond to increased temperatures 
A new study looks into how 15 globally important species of Sphagnum mosses - also called peat moss - respond to increased temperatures, drought and other environmental changes. “Sphagnum is crucial given their role as ecological engineers, since they form non tropical peatlands by peat accumulation and maintain important carbon sinks through many hydrological and ecological feedbacks” according to this study
