Eco-DRR headlines at the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2016

Held once every four years, the IUCN World Conservation Congress (WCC) brings together several thousand leaders and decision-makers from government, civil society, indigenous peoples, business, and academia, with the goal of conserving the environment and harnessing the solutions nature offers to global challenges. As the Conference wraps up week-long events, here are some initial highlights related to Eco-DRR:
  • Island Resilience Initiative- President H.E. Tommy E. Remengesau, Jr of Republic of Palau announces a new initiative that enables island states such as Palau to strengthen resilience against climate change and extreme events through sustainable ecosystem  management. Read more
  • NI4Biz Training Course launched  - Available now online, this training course raises awareness of the business sector of the multiple benefits of investing in natural infrastructure, such as wetlands for waste water treatment and flood mitigation.Read more

  • New book by PEDRR on  “Ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction and adaptation in practice” launched. Read more
  • Protected Planet Report 2016 launched - Protected Areas demonstrated to increase the resilience of vulnerable human communities. Read more
  • New coalition to scale up private conservation investment. Read more
  • Bonn Challenge approaches target to restore 150 million hectares of degraded lands with a new initiative in 10 countries to accelerate community-driven restoration projects and  support South-South cooperation.  Read more
  • Training on Eco-DRR“Towards a new win-win approach: biodiversity conservation for disaster risk reduction”, which encouraged participants to design creative solutions to reducing disaster risk Read more
