Rainwater harvesting as a strategy to reduce water stress in peri-urban areas

Abstract

The water crisis presents an urgent challenge for metropolitan municipalities. A case in point is Tecámac, State of Mexico, where this study evaluates the potential of rainwater harvesting systems (RHS) through an integrated assessment of the city’s water footprint and scarcity index. Findings suggest that active community participation can enhance the technical and social viability of RHS as Nature-based Solutions.
