Global Risk Report 2016
The World Economic Forum released the 11th edition of its Global Risk Report for 2016, which highlights the most significant long-term risks. This year’s report finds that failure to adapt to climate change is the number one global risk, and argues that the connection between climate risk and ecosystems must be made more explicit. Read the report here.
Land Degradation Neutrality: Implications and opportunities for conservation
This IUCN Technical Brief discusses the problem of forest degradation, and the impact it has on disaster risk and climate change vulnerability. It promotes Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) as a global solution to this problem and examines how to achieve LDN, including through ecosystem-based approaches. Read the brief.

"The Road to Resilience" is underway in India
From 10 January – 15 February, The World Bank will embark on a 10,000 kilometer bus journey across India. The voyage will provide implementation support for coastal management and climate resilience projects along India’s coastline as well as raise awareness on risk mitigation and climate resilience. Several projects have ecosystem management components. Check out the bus route, and find out more on the initiative’s website.

Quick Knowledge
A guide to reading the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction

Q: What are the main differences between Hyogo Framework for Action and the Sendai Framework?

A: The SFDRR has a greater focus on risk reduction and prevention of new risks, while the Hyogo Framework places emphasis on reducing disaster losses. The SFDRR focuses more on “the how” while the HFA focus more on “the what”. Both frameworks address the environment; however, the SFDRR makes the connection between sustainable ecosystem management and disaster risk reduction more explicit.
