Assessing Mozambique’s exposure to coastal climate hazards and erosion
The newly published journal article has adopted the Exposure Index (EI) method to calculate the exposure of Mozambique’s coastline to coastal hazards. Based on the results, they have assessed the importance of the natural habitats in reducing exposure to coastal hazards. The information has enabled local officials to design effective coastal plans and increase the coastal resilience in Mozambique. Read the full article here.
Nature to the rescue: Using ecosystem services to reduce flood risks
Saskia Marijinissen of the UN Development Programme shares her reflections on ecosystem-based flood risk management approach. Originally from the Netherlands, a country that is built on a massive flood plain, she understood very well how heavy infrastructure worked to protect people from flooding. In this opinion piece, she discusses how nature-based solutions are increasingly adopted in different countries and could be a good alternative to heavy infrastructure. Check out the full blog here.
