Gambia fights the devastating impacts of climate
Gambia increasingly suffers from severe droughts and floods. In collaboration with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the Government of Gambia has launched significant efforts to rehabilitate 7,000 hectares of forest, woodlands, savannah and mangroves and 3,000 hectares of cultivated land, fallow land and along the roadside, through agroforestry and reforestation. The project is expected to reduce drought and flood risks, as well as provide multiple benefits for local livelihoods, biodiversity and carbon sequestration. About 11,550 people - half of whom are women - are expected to benefit directly. For details
Rehabilitate Degraded Land and Mitigate the Effects of Drought

The Government of China and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) have launched the Joint Action Initiative to Combat Desertification, Rehabilitate Degraded Land and Mitigate the Effects of Drought (JAI). Measures include drought preparedness, creating ecosystem stability, and developing green and low-carbon infrastructure. Focused on achieving SDG Goal 15, this initiative aims to alleviate poverty and improve livelihoods by promoting healthy and productive land.Read more about JAI

An analysis of European urban climate adaptation plans
This paper discusses ecosystem-based adaptation and risk reduction measures in 14 European cities and classifies such measures around four main parameters. These measures address heat, floods and water scarcity, and include enhancing green areas for flood retention and water storage, neighbourhood gardens and expanding riverside public areas. The analysis shows a current gap in implementation and highlights the importance of linking adaptation plans with other planning instruments at the local level. Read more.
