West African farmers are losing productive land, as reduced rainfall and rising sea levels contribute to growing land salinization and drought. Since 2013, IUCN’s Ecosystem Protecting Infrastructure and Communities (EPIC) project has supported local communities from 12 villages in western Senegal and northern Burkina Faso in their efforts to sustainably restore land using traditional land practices. An IUCN-facilitated exchange has enabled farmers from both countries to pool their traditional knowledge as they adapt to these climatic changes. Read the blog.
