Marisol Estrella - Project Coordinator of the Disaster Risk Reduction programme


Marisol Estrella is currently the Project Coordinator of the Disaster Risk Reduction programme in the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), based in Switzerland, where she has been working for the past three years. She undertakes field projects, capacity building, policy advocacy, and partnerships development. Ms. Estrella has previous field experience in community-based disaster risk management and local governance and has worked in the Philippines, East Timor and Indonesia. She also has expertise in participatory learning methodologies and has undertaken participatory evaluations for rural development and livelihood projects in the Philippines. She has worked with local NGOs in the Philippines and consulted with the Asian Development Bank, Oxfam, and GIZ. Ms. Estrella has a Master’s degree in Environment, Development and Policy from the University of Sussex (UK), where she earned a Distinction, and a Bachelor Honours degree in Applied Anthropology and Environmental Studies from the University of McGill, Canada.
